Viticulture and Winemaking: Made from Touriga-Nacional and Jaen, cultivated ecologically with complete respect for the original terroir. After a strict selection in the vines, the grapes were transported in small boxes to the winery. The grapes are produced in vineyards which are over 30 years old, located in Mouraz, Tondela, with south orientation, granite soil and a medium altitude of 300 m. Fermented in stainless steel vats, followed by a long maceration. 50% of the wine aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. Total production: 10 000 bottles. Bottled in November 2018

Tasting Notes: It shows an intense ruby color with purple highlights. Exquisite flavor of ripe red fruit, jelly, notes of cocoa and fine spices. The round mouth shows great complexity with soft and well-educated tannins and a long and persistent finish. Perfect to match with lamb or veal in the oven as well as steamed or game dishes. Also goes quite well with strong cheese and spicy flavors.

CASA DE MOURAZ - The winemaker of Dao Private Selection
Besides Dao Private Selection see all CASA DE MOURAZ wines.

CASA de MOURAZ was created by António Ribeiro and Sara Dionísio, who left their jobs in Lisbon and immersed themselves in what has become a family adventure, a version of sustainable viticulture and authentic winemaking. Mouraz, situated in the heart of Dão region, is António’s birth place, where his family has farmed vineyards in a holistic and ecological way for many generations.

This is also a place where the landscape and terroir is shaped by its people and geography, old and new vineyards coexisting with the pine, oak, chestnut and cork trees in a wild forest. This diversity is reveals itself in the personality and complexity of the CASA de MOURAZ wines, and reflects all their passion for this place.

The farm is spread over several parcels with different soils (granite and clay) and altitudes ranging from 140 to 400 meters. The most important indigenous grape varieties are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Baga and Água-Santa for the red wines and Malvasia-Fina, Bical, Cerceal, Encruzado and Alvarinho for the whites.

All the vineyards that are part of CASA de MOURAZ gained ECOCERT’s Organic certification in 1997. In 2006 we began working with Biodynamic preparations and practices and we are now doing the conversion with Demeter.

The work done by CASA de MOURAZ was quickly recognized internationally, becoming a member of the prestigious Biodynamic wine group “Renaissance des Appellations” since 2009.
